Tackling the Barrhorn (3610m)

I’m completely exhausted after ascending a nearly vertical rock formation for nearly 20 minutes on my way back from the summit. Descending down from Europe’s highest hiking mountain already takes me a solid five hours since getting off the beaten path in thick fog at the top. Even though this will not be a good preparation for my upcoming Kilimanjaro climb in terms of altitude, it certainly shows me how serious it is to summit mountains and how careful you have to be in bad weather… Read the rest of this entry »

One new continent, five new countries and an endless list of new cities and activities were awaiting me when I started my two month trip through South America this summer. Joined by a friend and a Couchsurfer, it was a journey filled with great adventures and also some unpleasant moments. This will be the first out of many posts to tell you all about it and everything started in Colombia’s capital. Read the rest of this entry »

To be invited into a foreign country and not worry about anything except the flight to get in is certainly something great. What if, however, your friend does not pick you up from the airport and you end up doing a two week trip completely on your own without even seeing him once? Keep on reading to follow my journey between Cairo and Dahab, one of the most memorable trips I’ve had so far.

Dublin Live

#d_dublin

“Welcome to Dublin – the city where the sun never stops shining.” – certainly the best line of a flight attendant ever while we touched down in the grey and rainy Dublin last night. I’m here to do three trainings for our customers in Ireland and the first one is already done while I am writing this post. Hopefully it won’t rain so much on the weekend since I want to walk the first 51km of the Wicklow Way! The weather today was actually quite nice while I was walking through the city after work – check out the pictures in this post if you like 🙂

Scotland Live (second week)

#c_scotland_live

The second week in Scotland is over and it’s been a great trip with many beautiful locations. We were very lucky with the weather as well – apart from the snow in the first couple of days, grey sky in Edinburgh and just one minute of rainfall on our last Hike to Ben A’an, it’s been amazingly sunny throughout the entire trip. Check out this post for some shots from the last seven days!

Scotland Live

It’s been one week since I started my Scotland tent-roadtrip with a couple of strange couchsurfers and friends. After days and days without any Wireless Lan or Phone coverage, I’m now finally sitting in a Pub in the small village Applecross and will provide you with some shots from our last days. Check them out! 🙂

Jamaica accelerates the Jeep, heading straight towards yet another water hole in front of us. The vehicle roars up as it gets stuck in the hole, leaving us stranded in one of the most isolated parts of the northern Serengeti. Our guide calmly tells us to stay in the car while he gets help. “Don’t you have a gun with you?”, I ask. “No… I have god with me…”, he says, and wanders out into the vast lion territory around us. A couple of friends and I spent a Rafting weekend in Austria and we had an adrenaline-packed time, being chased by a storm on the first ride and then fighting the harsh rapids on the second. Apparently, it is essential to know how to properly drink Tequila if you want to take on the challenge of grade 5 rapids – read this quick recap to find out why!
