Upcoming: India & Sri Lanka

20 Dec December 20

20/12/2015 I’m looking for someone to join me for my upcoming trip to India and Sri Lanka in January 2016! Check out this post for some details and hit me up if you are interested 🙂

Travelling from 05/01/2016 to 03/02/2016

So… I got a list of places in the map below, based on research from locals on Couchsurfing and TripAdvisor. That list contains too many places to visit in a month, but I like to plan and am willing to skip stuff once I’m on the road! It will give you an overview though, so check at least the red spots on the map and see if you like it too! Hampi for instance looks awesome and it seems to be one of the best places for bouldering in India, so it’s a bonus if you like to climb!

This list is just a very first rough Idea of places to see in an order that makes sense logistically. It also shows you the arrival and departure dates of my flights, coming in to Mumbai on the 5th of January and leaving from Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo on the 3rd of February. On January 25th, I booked a flight from Madurai in South India to Colombo with Spicejet, which is actually a pretty funny name for an airline in India… Don’t look to much at the city info on that list though, it will change a lot and for instance Varkala includes 2 Backup days. Probably I will use them in Hampi anyway 🙂

Other than that, I am basically just looking for a nice person to share this experience with. I have no problem doing the trip alone as well, but it’s always nice to have someone coming. I plan to do Couchsurfing whenever it is possible, maybe going into a hostel from time to time just to get another kind of vibe as well. I intend to do some hiking, but it will only be easy stuff as far as I can tell. Check out places like Adam’s Peak or Sigiriya and you will see that bringing some hiking shoes will be worth the extra weight!

Here is the map, red means I really want to go and yellow represents a nice-to-have. Unless we get a car, it will be pretty much impossible to see the yellows 🙂

    Hi Chris,

good to hear you’ll be back on the road soon. I’ve never been to India, but we travelled a similar route in Sri Lanka with the family last year (map and link to a bunch of articles: ). Sri Lanka looks small compared with its big neighbor, but travel there is usually rather slow – we had 3 weeks and still felt like rushing too much, so if you want to see a bit of the country and cover some distance by train I definetively recommend at least 2 nights at each place. Or just give it a separate trip – it definetively deserves it. Anyway, good luck in finding a travel buddy and looking forward to the next stories.

I will need a lot more time for that since mountains are my preferred destination. So I will do it another time on a separate trip 🙂
